Our journey continues! Today, we are going to visit one of our farms in Esmeraldas: The Hacienda “Cinco Hermanos”. In particular, we are going to talk to the foreman of the farm– Xavier Aveiga.
The Hacienda “Cinco Hermanos” produces a diverse array of crops such as palm tree, cacao tree, orchards and cattle. In this video we will find out more about organic farming and the control procedures that have to be implemented in order to have an integrated pest management system in place.
In a nutshell, organic farming involves changing and adapting the conventional farming methods to exclude the use of fertilizers and pesticides in favor for organic compost or green manure. In order to eliminate the use of pesticides, alternative natural methods that are organic and sustainable have to be used. There are a series of pest management evaluations, decisions and controls, which are done by our agronomists. They help our farmers (in this case the Hacienda “Cinco Hermanos”)–to monitor, identify, prevent and control!
Natural Habitats is more focused on proactive and preventive actions, having rigorous internal control systems in order to correctly evaluate the situation! Integrating the Pest Management system in the internal control system is not an easy process but it is essential in preserving the organic and sustainable values of Natural Habitats!
We would like to thank the Hacienda “Cinco Hermanos” for the fantastic job they do and the due diligence they take in order to be provide with quality palm fruits! To find out more please watch this video !
Our journey will continue! Stay tuned for more exciting stories!
