Organic Palm Oil: Everything About It!

Everyone is talking about red palm oil, even Dr Oz considers it as the first miracle of 2013, but where is that oil coming from? And why is it so nutritious and powerful to fight the aging process, fight belly fat and combat heart disease. We’ll do our best to make sure you know everything about it fabulous cooking and healing oil.
Red Palm Oil is an oil with intense carrot-like colour, originated from Africa. It has a distinctive taste and is a traditional part of the meal in Africa and South America.
Virgin palm oil (red) takes it roots since ancient times. For generations red palm oil has been revered as both a nutritious food and a valuable medicine. It was prized by the pharaohs of ancient Egypt as a sacred food. The oil was so highly valued that it was entombed with the pharaohs so that they would have access to it in the afterlife. Red palm oil is the fresh oil that is obtained before refining. It contains a vast amount of nutritional elements, such as of vitamins, antioxidants, and other phytonutrients important for good health. Red palm oil is characterised by its intense beautiful reddish colour. The colour comes from carotenes such as beta-carotene and lycopene—the same nutrients that give tomatoes and carrots and other fruits and vegetables their rich red and orange colours. Carotenes are valuable nutrients and powerful antioxidants. They are also important because our body can convert them into vitamin A, an essential nutrient. Vitamin A deficiency can cause blindness, weaken bones, lower immunity, and adversely affect learning ability and mental function.
Palm Oil is the largest natural source of tocotrienol. Tocotrienol is a member of vitamin E family. No other vegetable oil has as much Vitamin E as palm oil (Chow 1992) Tocotrienols in Vitamin E have been found to have antioxidant and anti-cancer activities. Its antioxidants properties bring many benefits to the human body, such as preventing skin aging, preventing fat oxidation, reducing blood pressure.
Some studies found that palm oil increases the levels of good cholesterol and reduces the levels of bad cholesterol in the blood. (Zhang et al. 1997, cited by Koh) Its richness with vitamin E, appear to reduce serum cholesterol concentrations and has a potent anti-oxidant effects. (Mukherjee, Mitra 2009)

Mainstream Sustainable Palm Oil Production in Ecuador

Deforestation caused by many palm-oil producers, harming wildlife habitats, has been a widespread concern around the world. However, more and more palm oil is now being sourced sustainably with a help of the certification initiative promoted by a non-profit association Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) that aims to transform markets to make sustainable palm oil the norm. Natural Habitats as 100% organic and sustainable producer was certified with RSPO standard in 2013.
