Natural Habitats started an Ebola support initiative to help reduce the social impacts that the virus is causing in the local communities. Sierra Leone is struggling to contain the deadliest ever Ebola outbreak in the history of mankind. Many children are left as orphans, their parents either dying due to Ebola or abandoning them. This has severely strained the public health infrastructure of the country and has given way to acute food insecurity and poverty.
The support initiative by Natural Habitats had a good response from our customers and service suppliers who have also contributed with food and logistics to bring the help to Sierra Leone. Two containers were prepared and sent carrying dry fruits, protective gears and chemicals used to make water safe for drinking. We are very thankful to our customer Rapunzel Naturkost and the transport partners Dekker for their donations and collaboration. The containers have arrived in Sierra Leone and are ready for distribution.
The Ebola crisis has dealt a devastating blow to West Africa. The latest estimate of the cumulative number of cases now stands at 7780 in Sierra Leone alone. Natural Habitats has been working with more than 1000 small farm holders in Sierra Leone, we are fully committed to our core value of Social development and community building which goes beyond the current externalities.
